Gastroparesis, or delayed gastric emptying, is most common in people with long-term diabetes mellitus and requires special dietary treatment managed by a gastroenterologist working with a nutritionist, an expert says. Frequent small meals, limited dietary fat and nondigestible fiber intake, and homogenized or liquid meals can help alleviate symptoms, but careful attention is needed to ensure adequate hydration, caloric intake and maintenance of body minerals.
