FCC chairman missed opportunity with NAB Show speech

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski's speech at the NAB Show not only was "unmemorable," but also failed to sway broadcasters on the benefits of giving up spectrum to broadband operators, according to columnist Harry A. Jessell. However, Genachowski did reach out to broadcasters on other matters, saying the FCC wouldn't push stations onto VHF, would stay out of retransmission negotiations with pay TV operators and would look at reducing or ending regulatory barriers preventing broadcasters from expanding their own broadband initiatives.
