FDIC report defends new regulatory powers

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said in a report that if regulators in 2008 had the powers they now have, they could have safely dismantled Lehman Brothers without requiring a government rescue or threatening the stability of the financial system. The report offers a hypothetical analysis that defends the new powers Congress gave regulators through the Dodd-Frank Act.
