Subway to cut down on the salt in its sandwiches

Subway said Monday that it plans to cut sodium levels in certain sandwiches by 28% from 2009 levels and reduce salt in all its offerings by 15%. The move, which makes Subway the first major quickservice operation to commit to such a significant reduction, comes amid rising pleas from health advocates, lawmakers and consumers concerned about the health risks related to excessive sodium intake.
