U.S. would benefit from Marcellus Shale drilling in New York

It is time responsible development was allowed in New York's part of the Marcellus Shale natural gas field to help curb U.S. reliance on energy imports and spur economic growth, writes Rep. Thomas Reed, R-N.Y. Pennsylvania gained $400 million in state and local tax revenues and 48,000 jobs from Marcellus Shale production in 2009. New York state regulators would help ensure that any drilling would be conducted safely, Reed writes.
