Incentive auction yield may be limited, McDowell says

The incentive auction of broadcast spectrum may be hard-pressed to reach its reduced goal of reclaiming 80 MHz of spectrum, Federal Communications Commission member Robert McDowell said during an appearance with FCC member Mignon Clyburn at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. The amount of spectrum that can be repurposed could be limited by chunks along the Mexican and Canadian borders that will not be available and by the fact that each broadcaster only has 6 MHz to sell, McDowell said. "Broadcaster by broadcaster, that's got to be a lot of broadcasters leaving the market," he said.
