Severe child abuse raises schizophrenia risk in adulthood

Severe abuse or trauma during childhood may triple the risk of schizophrenia and related forms of psychoses in adulthood, U.K. researchers wrote in the journal Schizophrenia Bulletin. The lead author said that the type of childhood trauma influenced the subsequent psychiatric symptoms later in life.
