Verizon Wireless plots spectrum-license sale

Verizon Wireless has announced that it will begin licensing bandwidth in a number of major metropolitan areas to support new broadband services. The telecom -- which acquired the spectrum in 2008 for $4.4 billion -- said it would auction frequencies that were previously used by UHF broadcasters once it receives government approval to acquire spectrum from cable companies and Leap Wireless.
