Carotid body activation may lead to insulin resistance

Insulin-induced carotid body activation may increase sympathoadrenal activity that leads to insulin resistance and hypertension, according to an animal study in the journal Diabetes. However, carotid sinus nerve resection was shown to prevent CB overactivation and diet-related insulin resistance and hypertension, researchers said.
