Will a longer school day enhance social studies, science in Seattle?

Seattle Public Schools officials are looking for ways to add 30 minutes to the elementary-school day to make sure all subjects are receiving sufficient time. Shauna Heath, the district's curriculum and instruction chief, said the added minutes would allow teachers to spend more time on subjects such as social studies, science, the arts, and social-emotional components through physical education and music, all of which she said could use greater attention.
