Mo. middle-schoolers conduct research to honor local Vietnam veterans

Students from Steelville Middle School in Missouri have launched projects to honor Vietnam veterans from their area and state. The students, in social studies teacher Jennifer Whitson's classes, plan to create a war monument for Crawford County's courthouse, and honor the county residents who lost their lives as a result of the war and whose names are on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The students have researched the war's history, and are seeking photos and information about the veterans to honor their sacrifice. "We want them to become more than just names carved into stone -- they were real people," Whitson said.
