Discussion lingers over antibiotic use in animals

A series of briefings held in Congress in recent weeks focused on the lingering debate on antibiotic use in livestock animals. Public health and consumer groups continue to push for a ban on animal antibiotics, arguing that use of the drugs increases resistant bacteria in humans. Meanwhile, AVMA as well as the meat and feed industries maintain that no science backs such a claim.
