FDA to set salt limits in food products

The Food and Drug Administration is planning to gradually lower the allowable sodium content in processed foods over the next several years to prevent hypertension and other health problems linked to excessive sodium consumption. The government has called on food manufacturers to voluntarily reduce salt in their products, and companies such as ConAgra, PepsiCo, Kraft Foods, General Mills and Sara Lee have already said they will do so.
