Study reports on pet-related falls, offers tips for reducing risk

About 80,000 pet trips occur in the U.S. each year, according to a new report. With roughly 64% of U.S. families with pets owning more than just one animal companion, according to AVMA data from 2006, household injuries related to pets are unavoidable, the study found. The finding is not meant to discourage pet ownership, said one of the researchers, who offered advice on minimizing the incidence of pet-triggered falls.
