More investors choose ETFs over stock mutual funds

Once perceived as a niche investment product, ETFs have become mainstream. Since the stock market's upswing in March 2009, investors have put $57 billion into ETFs while they have withdrawn $66 billion from stock mutual funds. Transparency, low cost and the ability to combine ETFs to easily create diversified portfolios have contributed to their popularity.
