Spending on prescription drugs grows at slower pace, report shows

An IMS Health report shows that prescription-drug spending last year increased 2.3%, to $307.4 billion, compared with 5.1% in 2009 and as much as 13% a year earlier in the decade. Pfizer's cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor, AstraZeneca's antacid Nexium and Bristol-Myers Squibb's blood thinner Plavix were among last year's best-sellers, the report notes.
