White House unveils 5-year plan to curb prescription-drug abuse

The Obama administration announced a five-year governmentwide initiative to cut prescription-drug abuse by 15% among people age 12 and older. The plan calls for prescriber training about safe medication use, improved drug monitoring, guidelines for medication disposal and tighter regulation of pill mills and provider shopping. "This plan will save lives, and it will substantially lessen the burden this epidemic takes on our families, communities and workforce," said Vice President Joe Biden.
