European venture fights Bombardier for WestJet order

WestJet Airlines is considering a company other than Bombardier to supply its regional fleet. The Canadian carrier had been expected to use Bombardier's Q400, as it seeks 40 turboprop aircraft. But a joint venture between EADS and Italy's Alenia Aermacchi is highlighting the fuel efficiency of its ATR 72, which uses 47% less fuel than the Q400.
