Texas third-grade student Tyler Maldonado-Bloodgood, who has autism, recently received a CEC Yes I Can! award for his accomplishments in academics. Maldonado-Bloodgood, who reads above grade level and earns straight A's in school, has benefited from special education and early-intervention strategies, his mother Michele Maldonado said. "We're moving from a child who needs a whole bunch of help all the time to a young man who's starting to understand what his needs and wants are and be able to tell someone else," she said.
