Analysis: How Tricare fees would increase under DOD proposals

Proposed changes to the Tricare health program would increase the copay on 30-day prescriptions for brand-name drugs purchased at retail outlets from $17 to $26, starting Oct. 1. The Pentagon has also proposed other hikes in out-of-pocket costs. Opponents of the reform point to a $709 million surplus in the program account last year, but Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel says the increases are necessary for long-term sustainability of the program.
