Could a special coating improve solar-energy harvesting?

A special coating applied to solar panels could significantly improve the efficiency of energy harvesting and decrease its overall cost, according to research published in the journal Science. The coating, called pentacene, appears to split photons in two, thus doubling the amount of energy and electrons that can be harvested.
