Report: Customers prefer manufacturers, services for installs

Best Buy's Geek Squad and Circuit City's firedog support programs are growing, but a report found that while customers buy their consumer electronics at the big boxes, they turn to the manufacturers and independent services for help. The NPD Group said that many consumers bypassed the chains for installing, repairing and maintaining their PCs, home networks and home-theater systems.
