Benefits of mark-to-market changes expected in Q2

The benefits of changes to mark-to-market accounting rules probably will not be seen on banks' balance sheets until second-quarter results are released, as evidenced by first-quarter results. So far, first-quarter results have been better than expected, leading some investors to bet that second-quarter results will be even better. "I hope we're going to see the financial system on an upward track," said Bill Isaac, former chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
