Canadian retailers urge government to regulate card fees

Retailers across Canada are warning that if Ottawa does not regulate service fees charged by credit and debit card firms, the country's consumers will take the financial hit. "Those fees have undergone continual and frequent increases in the last year, and our [organisation], along with other associations linked to the retail industry, are pressing [the government] to manage, either legislatively or through regulations, the commercial practices of credit card companies," said Gaston Lafleur of the Quebec Retail Council.
