The intensity of the recession may ease this summer, according a forecast by the Conference Board. The group's index of leading economic indicators declined 0.3% in March, which was more than expected. Building permits, deliveries to businesses and stock prices contributed to the decline. However, Conference Board economist Ken Goldstein said the economy has shown some signs of improvement this month, and Fed Vice Chairman Donald Kohn said the recession could get better later this year.
