Wind energy faces lack of enough transmission lines

Wind energy could have the capacity to generate 20% of the country's power in the next 10 years, according to a report from the Department of Energy. The only limitation is the lack of transmission lines to transport the wind energy from remote wind farms to populated areas. "If we had a stronger grid, we could pump power from wind-rich areas in the West to Chicago, St. Louis and maybe even New York," said Sandy Butterfield of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
