CMS proposes rule for 2011 hospital inpatient payment rates

The CMS is proposing to increase inpatient acute care hospital rates covered by the Inpatient Prospective Payment System by 2.4%. The agency, however, also has proposed to decrease payment rates through a documentation and coding adjustment of 2.9%. Considering these and other factors, CMS said hospital inpatient payments in 2011 will be reduced by 0.1%, which would amount to $142 million.
