Experts: Providers need to take control of health IT

Electronic health records can improve provider efficiency and quality of care, but the process can be stymied by systems that lack the necessary capabilities, so providers need to voice their opinions when adopting and upgrading systems, experts wrote in the New England Journal of Medicine. "Clinicians need to take back ownership of the medical record as a tool for improving patient care; such a move could have many benefits, including reducing the frequency of diagnostic errors," the experts said.
