Researchers call for economical approach to seismic risk reduction

Retrofitting a building's skeleton to protect it against seismic events isn't always possible. However, researchers with the Canadian Seismic Research Network say that use of advanced composite materials such as fiber-reinforced plastic can be used to reinforce walls and columns of quake-prone buildings. In addition, high-tension cables to support shear walls could also be used.
