Washington state bill seeks larger cages for egg-laying hens

A Senate bill under consideration in Washington state would mandate the use of bigger cages for egg-laying hens, a requirement that some animal rights groups that favor free-range housing say still isn't sufficient. AVMA, however, reports that rates of death and disease are higher among hens kept in cage-free housing systems, according to this letter to the editor.
