Chia goes beyond pets to sprout up in food and drinks

Chia seeds, rich in fatty acids, fiber and minerals, are becoming a popular ingredient in baked goods, drinks and snacks. The ancient seed is re-emerging because people "are looking for products to help them eat healthier," said Michael Hirsch, vice president of Joseph Enterprises, which launched the Chia Pet three decades ago.
