Some food manufacturers building plants despite overall lull

Although there hasn't been a lot of new plant construction in the food industry of late, some companies, such as Smithfield Foods and Glanbia Foods, are expanding, building plants close to sources of raw materials. Companies also are investing in automating some of their manufacturing processes in an effort to boost profit margins.
