Students promote tolerance toward gays

Across the nation, a record number of college and high school students are expected to observe the ninth annual Day of Silence to protest the harassment of gays and lesbians in schools. A 2003 survey by one of the Day's organizers, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, indicated most gay, bisexual and transgender students felt unsafe in their high schools.
