Mistake in calibration led to huge release of lake water

A mistake in calibrating a gauge that measures lake water resulted in the 2006 release of 22 billion gallons from Atlanta's principle source of drinking water. Neighbors noticed the water level dropping in Lake Lanier, but the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers didn't realize the problem due to staffing changes.
