Debt weighs down hotel chains

Many hotel chains are finding it difficult to restructure with the debt they built up in recent years, especially with the record buyouts during the boom period. Extended Stay is attempting to restructure its $7.4 billion debt load. Highland Hospitality and Red Roof Inn are working to restructure their respective $1.7 billion and $1.2 billion debt loads taken on in their 2007 acquisitions.
