Macy's, Best Buy make use of mobile apps

Some retailers soon will be sending special offers to customers who are standing in bricks-and-mortar stores and comparison-shopping on their mobile phones. Chains including Macy's and Best Buy have signed on with a startup that will help them to identify when consumers are in or near the store, then send coupons and promotions. Other companies are working on similar efforts, including an app that also works as a loyalty card.
