Natural gas fields need pipelines, storage investment

The Marcellus Shale offers a rich deposit of natural gas, but a lack of basic infrastructure in Pennsylvania and the six other states in the Marcellus Shale region is choking production. The area needs pipelines, storage and processing facilities, and one estimate pegs the cost of that infrastructure at $10 billion over five years. The Marcellus Shale is estimated to contain enough natural gas to satisfy total U.S. demand for 23 years.
