TerraCycle's original business model was to take organic garbage and feed it to worms rather than dumping it in landfills, but the company soon found that its costs were greater than its returns. So instead, CEO Tom Szaky reinvented the company's business model by selling worm waste as fertilizer packaged in used soda bottles. By constantly adapting to the changing needs of their customers, TerraCycle became a booming business with $13.5 million in sales.
