The expanding market for solar power is leading to increased demand for polycrystalline silicon, a key chemical in manufacturing photovoltaic solar panels. Design firms such as CDI Engineering Solutions expect further demand growth. "China has announced that it is committed to solar power and is supplying low-interest loans to companies willing to build silicon plants producing at least 3,000 metric tons a year. ... I would estimate the market will grow by 20% to 30% a year for the next several years, and we plan to grow with it," said CDI President Bob Giorgio.
