Group tells lawmakers to raise taxes to reduce deficit

A U.S. business organization said Congress should put "everything on the table," including tax increases, when dealing with the budget deficit. The Committee for Economic Development said in a statement signed by more than 100 past and present CEOs that narrowing the deficit requires spending cuts and higher taxes. The nonpartisan policy-research group said lawmakers should stop playing politics with the nation's finances.
