Ore. seeks to strike balance in new plan for teacher evaluations

Oregon officials have agreed on a new way of evaluating teachers based in part on students' test scores. Under the program, which must be approved by the U.S. Department of Education, teachers whose students take end-of-year tests will be evaluated, in part, based on students' gains year-to-year. For other teachers, students will be tested at the beginning and end of the school year and those scores will be used to evaluate teachers. Teachers' overall ratings will be a combination of their professional assessments and students' test scores.
