Low Meat Prices Frustrate Producers

While Americans are enjoying low meat prices, cattle and hog producers are not so pleased, reports say. Food retailers are expected to advertise two-for-one specials this week in some parts of the country, industry experts say. Meat prices have plummeted because production is up and exports are down. Last week, the USDA estimated 2002 meat production will hit 84 billion pounds.
