Large hoteliers link rising profits to improved economy

Both Starwood Hotels and Marriott International reported improved first-quarter profits for 2004 and say the economic recovery has increased lodging demand. Starwood was upbeat upon revealing its earnings statement and CEO and Chairman Barry Sternlicht added, "It is gratifying to see the strategies and investments we have made in the recession drive our performance now."
