Panel recommends stent device for stroke patients

A federal advisory panel has approved recommendation to the FDA of the use of a stent to repair clogged arteries and prevent stroke in patients who may be unable to undergo surgery because they are poor surgical risks. Stents are cylinders that prop open newly cleared arteries and the stent recommended by the panel, which is called Precise and is developed by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Cordis, is used with a protection device called AngioGuard, which shields the brain from debris.
