REITs seen to outperform S&P over past decade

Investors who looked to real estate investment trusts for dividends have also been getting strong capital growth. The National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts says its composite equity REIT index has seen compounding returns of 10.22% over the past 10 years. The S&P 500 posted average gains of 4.07% over the same time period.
