India's retailers move to capitalise on accessories

Retailers in India are taking advantage of demand by upscale consumers for ties, scarves, watches and handbags by establishing chains specialising in accessories. Mumbai-based Raymond plans to beef up its Neckties and More chain to 100 stores. "Not too long ago, men's accessories meant only neckties and tie pins. These days, men's accessories are perceived as an extension of a man's personality and are as important as his other possessions like his watch or car," a Raymond representative said.
