Equine disease outbreak is reported in N.J., Massachusetts

An outbreak of a transmittable equine disease has been reported in New Jersey and Massachusetts, prompting a reminder on horse owners in Rhode Island to obtain recommended vaccines from their veterinarians and to isolate newly acquired horses for at least seven days. The outbreak has been traced to four horses that contracted the EHV-1 virus in New Jersey and eventually were transported to Massachusetts.
