Group seeks more food-animal vet recruitment programs

Recognizing that more than 50% of food-animal veterinarians are over the age of 50, the Fannin County Farm Bureau in Texas is calling for new programs to recruit more vets to enter the field. "A healthy animal is a productive one, and having qualified animal-health practitioners will be a necessity for our continued success in the livestock industry," the group's president said. AVMA recently introduced a loan-repayment program to encourage more students to enter the food-animal care field.
