Retailers are celebrating Earth Day with free stuff

From "eco" caps at Disney stores to reusable bags at Wegmans to free plants at Pottery Barn Kids, retailers are ramping up giveaways today in recognition of Earth Day. One marketing professor sees an irony in using resources to produce products aimed at promoting conservation, but says the effort is still a good one for brands involved. "An association does not have to be logical to work -- it only has to be favorable," says Southern Methodist University's Daniel Howard.
