SEC case is politically motivated, Goldman's Blankfein tells clients

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein lashed out at the Securities and Exchange Commission in a series of phone calls to private-equity executives and other business partners. He said the agency's lawsuit accusing the bank of fraud in the sale of mortgage-backed securities is politically motivated, said one person who received a call. Blankfein left those he called with the impression that he is eager to dispute the accusation in court.
